Iwami Silver Mine Okubo Mabu Limited Public Tour
- Schedule
- Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from March 1 to November 30, 2025, including Golden Week and Obon holidays
Iwami Silver Mine was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2007. The mining tunnels where silver was extracted are called "mabu," and surveys have confirmed nearly 1,000 of these, including various sizes. The Okubo Mabu is one of the largest, and inside you can see tunnels manually excavated during the Edo period and how the tunnels were widened during Meiji era development, making it a valuable historic site that conveys the evolution of mining techniques. This limited tour allows you to explore the interior of Okubo Mabu with a guide. The only way to enter Okubo Mabu is through this public tour, which has become very popular.
